Apprenticeship may be a overdone expression in most other venues; it is, however, the best way to learn wedding photography. Some studios want people who are experienced and show some samples of their work. Some however, may train you if they feel that you have potential and show a desire to learn and advance. Not many,but studios may even retrain you even if you have a many years of experience, since some studios have their own unique style. They may show you how to take your skills and apply it, so that your vision can match to theirs more closely.
Freelancing is the most hard way to get your foot into the business. Most people have no idea how to work with their business, where to get albums, talk to the clients, put out advertisements, sign contracts . You can definitely learn it all by yourself, but it may take years for you, making costly mistakes along the way.
